"A guest in a College Housing unit is any person who is not a resident of that particular apartment and whose purpose is to visit for a short time with another person who is a resident. Violations of these rules are subject to disciplinary action. Guests are only permitted to stay overnight on Friday and/or Saturday evenings. Overnight guests will also be permitted on evenings when there are no classes being held the following day; however, overnight guests are not permitted prior to a designated study day, at anytime during the end-of-semester finals period, or prior to the first day of classes at the beginning of a semester."
Here are some rules:
- Need all resident signatures (If can't get one to sign, they cannot stay overnight)
- Need signatures of Coordinator residence life
- If under 18, cannot stay overnight
- Guests need to be accompanied at all times
- If guest isn't registered, consequences will take action
- Host students are responsible for everything their guests do
- Even if someone lives in the rose street commons, if staying the night at a different hall, still have to go through the same procedure
My Opinion
So my opinion on this matter is that I frown upon some of these rules, but at the same time, find them fair. One rule that I do not like is the under 18 rule. Maybe, i'd like to have a younger family member or a close friend stay at the dorm for the night; it's like a sleepover to them. I am fine with all the residents signing saying that the visitor can stay, but guests don't need to be accompanied at all times. They are grown-ups like us (If over age). As well as what they do, it is their choice. There is one rule which I cannot stand though, which is the last rule on the list above. I live in the Rose Street Commons and I should be able to sleep at any hall I want to since I actually go to this college. If I am within the gates, with the consent of the host, I should sleep at another hall without going through the whole procedure. The good side of the rules, I know they made these to keep the students safe and secure.
